Seattle Arboretum Cherry Blossoms
In the spring there is a beautiful flower that blooms for only a few weeks. There is much anticipation for the unveiling of this event in the northwest! Once the small delicate blossoms unfold to full bloom, clouds of soft pink and white paint the landscape. These are the Cherry Blossoms.
Within the brief season of these small flowers is something of the everlasting cycle of life, death, and rebirth that has been celebrated in numerous cultures in many different ways. The blossoms are widely admired with festivals and events, so depending on where you are located you may have the opportunity to experience such splendor.
There are a handful of beautiful cherry blossom experiences in the Seattle/Eastside areas including Seattle Arboretum, Bellevue Botanical and Fall City/Redmond. I had the opportunity to shoot at the arboretum last year for the first time and now it is my favorite location in the spring. For this year, I had to scout once again because I could not remember the best spots! There is a cluster of trees along Azalea Way that just take your breath away.
For 2020, the cherry blossom experience was incredibly short due to the coronavirus. I had been anticipating the blush colored blooms and their dreamy photographic experience! I was crushed. Unessential businesses were cease just at peak bloom. Not only was my family scheduled to shoot, but also a few others on the books just as excited as I. So, the weekend prior to the order I collected my family and was able to capture my awesome boys along with a Senior Portrait. The blossoms performed wonderfully and what beauty.
A Symbol
In Asian cultures the blossom represents the idea of feminine beauty, bravery and fundamentally a symbol of love and joy. It is believed to promote affection and spiritual awareness. I have to admit, when coordinating shoots during the cherry blossom peak bloom my first thoughts are to capture affection and feature women with natural beauty. The color palette and softness of the flowers paint a serene touch to the images. A sense of peace and joy is met.
Although I am saddened to not have shot others in these amazing blooms, I was happy to accomplish these few. I have enjoyed editing the images and reminiscing the moment with my boys. They have eased my heart with peace during such a time of unknown. My family is what fills my heart with joy and family is what aids us through life trials. Maybe the blooms were at peak during this time for a reason- to give our soul a renewed energy necessary to survive. To remind us that life is an amazing gift, one that should not be taken for granted nor wasted but lived to the fullest. It is brief and challenging, yet worth every second.
